Offering one of the longest ski sessions in Europe, Van Thorens is part of the Three Valleys and provides over 600kms of delightful skiing. With a high altitude of 2300 metres, there is always plenty of first-rate snow for the winter season, lasting long into spring. There is terrain for everyone. The runs down from the Cime de Caron cable car are great for experts, and if anticipated, skiers at a suitable level can ski to Courchevel 1850 which takes around 2 hours to reach. There are many 'Magic Carpets' in this resort and some of which are free to use, an ideal terrain for beginners to learn on.
Val Thorens was established as a ski area in 1971 where the resort only contained three lifts. Now with thirty-two lifts available with approximately 150kms of skiing, you can see how much the resort has grown. The car-less village gives its own unique taste mixed with the traditional ski resort style in the French Alps. Nevertheless, if skiing doesn't take your fancy you could always try the longest toboggan run in Europe which totals to an outstanding 6km run, or practice your racing driving skills on the ice for Ice Driving.
With a large collection of bars and clubs, the apres-ski is one to enjoy with the entertainment lasting way into the night. For a bit of retail therapy, there are many shops and boutiques available to browse in, and if you are after relaxation—who isn't?—then why not try the many spas to unwind those weary muscles.
