Saas Fee is the main village in the Saas Valley, municipality in the district of Visp in the canton of Valais in Switzerland. Saas Fee has 2 main glaciers Dom and the Allalinhorn. These have proven to be invaluable to winter sport athletes and coaches and has facilitated training for major world stage ski events. Teams such as the US ski team have trained here on regular occasions. To name a few, Lindsey Vonn and Ted Ligety have enjoyed the merits of Saas Fee.
Saas-Fee with 22 lifts, including 3 cable cars, 1 funicular railway, 5 gondolas, 2 chairlifts, the remainder being surface lifts (draglifts) offers a great range of skiing. Skiing top to bottom, has a vertical drop of 1,800 m or a shade over 5900ft. Highest ski elevation of 3,550 m (11,647 ft) and covers 100 km, amazing 30 km for beginners, 45 km for intermediate, and 25 km the advanced skier, surely this terrain offers something for all skiers.
Saas-Fee can be reached by car or bus, though none provides a service beyond the bus station as the town doesn't allows vehicles during the winter months. Small electric vehicles are only allowed on the streets which are very quaint.
Saas Fee offers many culture, sports and off-slope activities, including classical music, a sports and leisure complex, restaurants, and nightclubs. With the highest underground funicular railway in the world to the skiing area and "The Allalin" the highest revolving restaurant in the world at 3,500 m over 11,000 feet. There is no wonder the slogan for Saas-Fee is "The pearl of the Alps" or "Die Perle der Alpen".
