The lodge’s remarkable setting overlooks what many safari travellers deem the finest game reserve on the continent, Kenya’s Maasai Mara. Angama Mara’s tented suites stretch out over two kopjes on the edge of the escarpment. The third kopje is immediately recognisable as the site where many of the most memorable scenes from Out of Africa were filmed.
Architect duo Silvio Rech and Lesley Carstens, and Jan Allan, Kenya’s King of Canvas, designed Angama Mara’s elegant and classical tented suites with an 11-metre wide floor-to-ceiling glass front. Each tent has the same breathtaking view – no one is better than the last – and every day, the sunrise provides guests with early morning theatre as the hot air balloons float gently by.
The rare beauty of the site has an emotional effect on visitors, an almost dreamlike quality of being somewhere 'between heaven and earth'.
No tented suite has the best view, nor the worst – all are spread along the edge of the Rift Valley. Unrivalled exclusivity with a private road directly into the Reserve – a mere 10-minute drive before you reach the reserve entrance. The 700-hectare site directly borders the Mara Triangle, with 1.2 km of Rift Valley frontage, its own forests and game a-plenty.
A private bespoke accommodation of one to four tents can be set up approximately an hour from the Lodge, with use of the Lodges facilities.
