Villefranche sur Mer is one of the most charismatic — if not the most charismatic — authentic French and Niçoise fishing village on the French Riviera. For such an attractive seaside town, Villefranche sur Mer is justifiably a very busy part of the Côte d’Azur. With long sandy beaches, promenade cafes and restaurants and the historic, picturesque town Old Town (Vieille Ville) it’s no wonder it’s a busy place.

As you come in from the main road above, the first beautiful sight you’ll see is of Old Town. The red tiled roofs, its distinctive church and bell tower, and narrow cobblestone streets, you’ll surely feel like you’ve been transported into medieval France. With steep slopes that lead to the sea, small boutique shops and restaurants, and the local fishermen selling their catch in the local market, the town also holds little picturesque squares to relax in like Place Félix Poullan and Place de l'Eglise.

The town is such a cute and quaint hideaway, even with a tourist hub, and attracts even famous guests such as Tina Turner who has a palatial villa here, at the peak of the Colline du Vinaigrier.
